Mr. Smith has developed a focus and passion for representing individuals, small and large corporations, non-profit partnerships, and insurance companies in a wide and varied array of general legal and complex litigation matters. Mr. Smith approach to litigation is based in a detail-oriented approach to zealous advocacy balanced with efficient and effective representation.
Throughout law school, Mr. Smith had the opportunity to gain valuable experience in both corporate, business licensing/transactional, and criminal defense environments interning for a top Fortune 10 company, the University of Arkansas Non-Profit Business Legal Clinic, and the Fayetteville Public Defender’s Office.
After graduating, Mr. Smith worked for a national health-care litigation firm and began independently managing and directing case strategy for over 40 lawsuits across two states. While in the health-care litigation field, Mr. Smith obtained extensive hands-on exposure to the litigation process including drafting and responding to complex discovery, taking and defending depositions, arguing at hearings, and preparing multiple cases for trial.
Mr. Smith joined Godfrey | Johnson at the beginning of 2017. During his tenure at Godfrey | Johnson, Mr. Smith has substantially expanded his legal experience working in areas such as complex industrial and consumer products, premises liability, general negligence, breach of contract and associated breaches of legal and fiduciary duties, business disputes, insurance bad faith and fiduciary obligations, aviation accident and incidents, governmental code and civil rights compliance, OSHA violations, medical negligence, consumer protection, slander and libel claims, and mass torts. Mr. Smith has been engaged with clients at all stages of litigation from pre-suit investigation through trial and appeal.
Unique Experience: Mr. Smith has had the opportunity to try two cases to verdict with Godfrey | Johnson, most recently receiving a complete defense verdict after a two and a half week trial on a complex products liability case wherein the Plaintiff claimed over $17 million in damages related to a work-place amputation. Mr. Smith has also had experience drafting appellate briefs and was instrumental in recently winning summary judgment on a multi-million dollar insurance coverage dispute and bad faith claim at the Colorado District Court and the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals.
Hobbies and interests: Mr. Smith loves attending concerts at the various venues in Denver and at Red Rocks, hiking and biking with his wife Blair, and exploring the evolving and vibrant food options in Denver.
